Ceran St. Vrain, born near St. Louis in 1802, joined the brothers Bent in the burgeoning Santa Fe Trail trade. The trapper and trader made his mark in business - and the often violent life on the frontier - before settling at Mora in northern New Mexico. His grave is there in a tiny, rarely-visited family cemetery. Admirers erected this stone in 1970, the centenary of St. Vrain's death.
