Hunkpapa Lakota Chief Sitting Bull met and defeated the enemy - Gen. George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry - at the Little Big Horn in Montana in 1876. In 1890 he was fatally shot by a tribal policeman. Originally buried at Ft. Yates in North Dakota, descendants moved his remains to the present site overlooking the Missouri River at Mobridge, South Dakota.
