It's a nameless grave at Point of Rocks east of Springer, NM, although there are tantalizing clues. In 1849 Jicarilla Apaches attacked James White and his party on the Santa Fe Trail east of Point of Rocks, killing several in the party and abducting Mrs. White and her daughter. It's not known if the graves hold the remains of travellers slain in the attack or others who perished en route to Santa Fe. The graves are typical impromptu burials: Rocks, and perhaps cactus planted to discourage animals. The graves are on the property of today's Point of Rocks Ranch owned by Pete and Faye Gaines, who have graciously welcomed visitors interested in Santa Fe Trail lore.
